It's been a while since Star Jones has been in the spotlight. Turns out she's been plotting revenge... literally. The first African-American cohost of The View is writing a novel about a TV talk show whose hosts "learn that a former colleague -- who departed under mysterious circumstances, and is privy to all their backstage secrets -- is coming back with a splash." Hmm, whatever could have inspired that story?
Jones, a former attorney, was a cast member on The View from 1997 to 2006. She was known for being smart and sassy -- but her charm faded when she started lying about her dramatic weight loss and accepting corporate sponsors for her extravagant 2004 wedding to now-ex-husband Al Reynolds. When Jones learned that her contract hadn't been renewed for season 10 of the ABC talk show, she went on the offensive, starting a bitter public feud with Barbara Walters (who's pretty much the last person you want to start a media war with, considering that she is the media). Jones called her former cohosts "hateful" and "mean-spirited"; Walters shot back at Jones in her 2008 memoir Audition, saying that Jones had ordered the View ladies to cover up her gastric bypass surgery. Jones then accused Walters of "speaking negatively against me all for the sake of selling a book."
But apparently Jones, 48, has decided that Walters' book-selling strategy was a good one after all. The New York Post reports that Jones will incorporate true events into her work of fiction, which is "being carefully vetted by lawyers." How much would you bet that the book will contain an aging journalist named Farbara Falters, who treats the lead character horribly, only to find that the tables have been turned? Honestly, Jones' literary ambitions leave a bad taste in our mouths. Sure, we'd love to hear some good dish from The View's green room. But if it's buried in Jones' delusional revenge fantasy, then maybe it's not worth digging up.
