Start Small and Go Slow

If you’re planning to entertain or host houseguests, staring down piles upon piles of mess can easily result in an unproductive and overwhelming de-cluttering frenzy. Stop. Take a breath. And don’t try to do a top to bottom makeover in a day. “Start slow,” advises Walsh. “It’s taken months or even years for your house to become cluttered so it’s not realistic to try and organize everything in one day or even a weekend. Instead, commit to starting small -- one room or section of a room at a time. Make a commitment every day to de-clutter and organize another part of your home until it’s done.”
