Stay-at-Home Moms and Dads

  • "A child needs to be with his parents. It's one thing to have someone watch your child for a temporary period of time (visits to Grandma's, let a friend watch while you get something done, have a caregiver for a month), but to have a child shipped off to daycare so a mother (who doesn't need the money -- only (needs) a sense of accomplishment) can work is a shame. Parents can say that the child loves it or benefits from daycare, which could be partially true, but any child would rather a parent spend time with (her)."

  • "I don't think it's wrong for a mother to work, even if she doesn't have to. But I truly believe that mothers should stay home with their kids until school age. I believe that both the kids and the moms benefit greatly from it."

  • "I wouldn't say that it is wrong for a mom to work if she didn't have too. To each his own, right?"

  • "I think that the couple needs to make that decision. It is a very hard one to make and I don't think we should, as a society, "second guess" anyone's choice. Some people really have needs that being a stay-at-home Mom can't meet. I personally chose to be a SAHM, but I'm not going to berate my fellow moms who have made a different decision."

  • "Have you ever heard a child call a day care provider "Mommy"? There are a lot of loving providers out there who would make a child VERY happy. It would break my heart to know that my child thought of someone else as her Mommy."

  • "The last one hundred years have brought great changes -- especially for women. Women should have a choice -- and so should men. Why not ask if the man can stay home? Stay-at-home parenting shouldn't always be just the mother's option. If both parents decided to work -- and had great childcare arrangements -- as long as the children are happy, then neither parent should feel bad about working."
