Stay Well Secret: Cut Down on Dairy

After childhood, we don’t need to keep drinking and eating large amounts of dairy to be healthy, Colbin says. The USDA recommends 3 cups of dairy a day, preferably low-fat or fat-free milk, yogurt or cheese. Colbin recommends nixing milk altogether of you’re trying to lose weight but if you don’t want to give it up, she suggests using organic whole milk (in very small amounts) over skim (“back to the whole food idea”). For added calcium, choose leafy greens both cooked and raw, like collard and turnip greens, kale, bok choy or beans and fish, like canned salmon with bones or sardines with bones.
