Stay Well Secret: Don't Skip Meals

“That’s very important,” says Annemarie Colbin, Ph.D., Natural Gourmet Institute founder and CEO who has authored numerous books including The Book of Whole Meals, Food and Healing, The Natural Gourmet and The Whole-Food Guide to Strong Bones: A Holistic Approach (Whole-Body Healing). When you don’t eat enough, your body feels hungry and lowers its metabolic rate. The end result: You may hold onto extra weight by eating less, says Colbin. Schedule three meals a day at similar times to ensure a steady supply of energy, starting with a healthy breakfast – like a whole grain cereal, a vegetable and some protein. “If you don’t eat breakfast, you pretty much set yourself up for having a drop in blood sugar before you get to lunch,” warns Gusman, “and then you tend to snack, go to vending machines or pick all day long.”
