The Bone Divas - - a group of 13 fabulous, fit and over-50 women diagnosed with osteoporosis, are inspiring other women to get in touch with their 'Inner Diva' to find strength to manage their disease and live life to the fullest. Selected based on their drive to manage their disease and continue leading active lives, these inspirational women grace the pages of the 2006 Bone Divas Calendar.

A "silent disease," osteoporosis can progress without obvious symptoms but eventually results in fractures which can cause severe pain, deformity, disability, hospitalization-even death. Some 10 million Americans have osteoporosis and 34 million more are at risk. It is estimated that one in two women over 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture during their lifetime.

The Bone Divas Project was established with support and assistance from Roche and GlaxoSmithKline. The 2006 Bone Divas Calendar is available now for free in an effort to showcase the strength and vitality of women with osteoporosis who take control of their bone health and have a can-do attitude that may inspire other women to take steps toward better bone health.

The 13 Bone Divas (11 with postmenopausal osteoporosis and two with its precursor, osteopenia) come from all walks of life. Vibrant and energetic, they include a wilderness hiker, Alpine and Nordic skiers, a distance walker and an international flight attendant - all age 57 to 78. Their pictures have been taken by world renowned photographer Joyce Tenneson (http://www.joycetenneson.com), whose work has appeared on the covers of Time, Life, Newsweek, Entertainment Weekly, Premiere, Esquire and the New York Times Magazine.
