| 3 tablespoons olive oil | 6 large kaiser rolls, split | |
| 1 large onion, halved and thinly sliced | 6 thinly sliced rib-eye steaks | |
| 1/2 cup (4 ounces) unsalted butter, at room temperature | Your favorite barbecue rub | |
| 1 1/2 traspoons granulated garlic |
In a medium skillet over medium-high heat, warm the oil. Add the onions and cook until golden brown, about 10 minutes. Transfer them to a bowl and set aside.
In a small bowl, mix the butter with the garlic. Spread the garlic butter evenly on all the rolls. (This can all be done the day ahead.) Prepare the grill for cooking over direct high heat. Season the steaks on both sides with the rub. Grill the rolls butter-side down quickly until golden brown. Transfer them to a platter. Grill the steaks for 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until medium-rare. Place each steak on a roll and top with the grilled onions. You can cut the sandwiches in half for a big crowd.
