I just finished my first week on Nutrisystem. I’ve been feeling energized, and my weight is now 176.4 -- a loss of 5.6 pounds! That makes me feel good about what I’m doing.
My food arrived with a booklet of information about how each day’s menu is set-up. I simply choose the meals that are pre-packaged for the day and accompany each of them with grocery store add-ins. Looking at nutrition labels rather than prices was a new experience for me; typically, I look for the best deal and shop on a budget. However, foods that are fat- or sugar-free, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables, tend to be the highest priced items.
As for the Nutrisystem food itself… I was surprised when the first box of food, full of burgers, pizza, and chicken, arrived and required no refrigeration. To be honest, that freaked me out! So far I’ve enjoyed most of the breakfasts, all of the lunches and only a few of the dinners. My two favorite breakfasts this week were an apple scone and a berry cereal. Plus, I can add either a dairy or protein and a fruit with the Nutrisystem breakfast item. Normally, I skip breakfast, but I think eating it helps me feel more energized until lunch, which is usually a soup. (Another bonus: I can have a big salad with two tablespoons of fat-free dressing and tons of veggies on it with lunch.) Honestly, it’s the pantry dinners that haven’t been great. I can’t get over the fact that that the meat didn’t need to be refrigerated. Good news, though: On Friday, my shipment of frozen foods arrived, which I’m loving. I’ve had a frozen pizza, which tasted great, and shrimp alfredo, which had a great sauce and tons of yummy veggies.
What I’m struggling with is the lack of sugar. I got sick one day this week (in my babysitter’s driveway -- how embarrassing!) due to a severe migraine, which I think it was caused by not having enough sugar. I’m used to drinking a Coke every day, and Nutrisystem permits only diet sodas. After 3 days, my body had enough. When my stomach settled, the first thing I did was drink a Coke, and you know what? By morning, I felt great! Needless to say, I’ve been breaking that part of the diet ever since, and I’ve been drinking a Coke every day.
