With all the frenzy on the red carpet, interviewers don't usually get past the question "who are you wearing?" But in an uncharacteristically candid interview with E! during last night's Emmys pre-show, True Blood's Stephen Moyer shared the intimate details of how he proposed to his costar, Anna Paquin.
Moyer said he was able to keep the proposal a secret because he didn't have to ask Anna her ring size. Instead, Moyer got the details from the True Blood costume designer and had a special ring made on the sly.
Once the ring was ready, Moyer picked the perfect private moment to pop the question. The twosome was having a romantic dinner in Hawaii, and Moyer said it was "very intimate and quite surprising for her."
England-born Moyer said what first attracted him to Paquin was her acting talent, but something happened that made him realize what he felt for her was more than just collegial respect.
"We'd finished work, and I was in London and she was in NY," Moyer told E! News' Giuliana Rancic. "And I just really, really missed her."
As for what makes Moyer know that his True Blood love is true blue, he says of Paquin: "She doesn't take any of my nonsense."
Which is good, because it seems like he's got nonsense to spare. He told Rancic that he considered proposing with a ring from the True Blood costume closet as a joke. Good thing he realized proposals are supposed to be romantic – not funny!
