Don't go "Cryin'" -- but Steven Tyler has announced that, after a mere two seasons, his American Idol judging days are over. And while we'll miss his wisecracks, his so-femenine-they're-masculine scarves, his sexual innuendos and his constant ogling of too-young female contestants (hello, Shannon Magrane!), at least we'll have the memories... and a farewell statement that's, well, vintage Steven.
"After some long... hard... thoughts... I've decided it's time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit," the 64-year-old Aerosmith rocker said in a statement Thursday. "I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I'm back -- but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I got two fists in the air and I'm kicking the door open with my band."
So if you're worrying about going into Steven Tyler withdrawal, don't. Aerosmith is releasing a new album Nov. 6, and the rocker say fans can expect to see a lot of him in the months and years to come.
"The next few years are going to be dedicated to kicking some serious ass," he said in his statement. "Idol was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of it. ... Now it's time to bring rock back."
While Tyler is the only Idol judge to officially announce that he's leaving the reality series, he's just the second judge today to talk about doing so. In an interview on this morning's Today show, Jennifer Lopez, 42, also hinted that her time on the hit FOX series might be at an end.
"I love all the guys on the show. I love the family that's there. Like I said, I've just enjoyed it so much," Lopez said. "But I am thinking that maybe it's time for me to go and do other things that I really love to do... At the end of the day, whichever way, it's a heartbreaking decision if I'm going to have to go."
Sounds like there might be multiple seats to fill at that judge's table next season. Good thing Charlie Sheen's volunteered to take one of them!
