Stevie Nicks is one of the original pop music divas, and don't you forget it! The Fleetwood Mac singer, 64, recently weighed in on the feud between American Idol judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. And in Stevie's eyes, Mariah has been far too kind to the feisty rapper.
“How dare this little girl! … If I had been Mariah I would have walked over to Nicki and strangled her to death right there," Nicks told The Daily, after viewing the leaked video of Minaj yelling at Carey. “I would have killed her in front of all those people and had to go to jail for it."
So dramatic! Sounds like Nicks would fit right in on reality TV. But even though she coached American Idol contestants last season, the singer has no desire to ever sit at the judge's table.
"If you stick me in the middle of a burning fire," she explained, "I don't think I'd like it very much."
Nicki and Mariah, on the other hand, don't mind letting the sparks fly. Now that their rumored feud has been caught on camera, both divas' camps have been working overtime to convince people that it was the other one's fault. Carey told Barbara Walter that Minaj had threatened to shoot her, a story that Walters promptly repeated on The View. Minaj denied threatening Carey on Twitter, and was backed up by Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe, who said that Walters' version of the story was "absolutely not true."
It appears that Carey and Minaj's feud may actually go back a few years. In 2010, Nickii appeared in Mariah's video for the song "Up Out My Face." (Really, it's called that. Watch it below!) At the time, Carey was a major star and Minaj was an up-and-comer -- but according to Carey's friend B. Scott, the "Starships" singer was totally disrespectful to Mimi.
"Mariah went out of her way to be nice to Nicki and make her comfortable," Scott told TMZ. But Nicki, he said, was "making faces at [Mariah] laced with rude comments under her breath."
Other sources, however, told People that Carey has been trying to undermine Minaj, "saying little things to jab at Nicki from day one of shooting."
For now, it looks like both Mariah and Nicki will keep their seats at the judge's table. Hopefully things won't escalate to the point of violence. And to that end, we recommend keeping Stevie Nicks far, far away from the set.
