Look Mom Loved: Her Printed Dress

This picture was taken right before my mom, Shirley, moved from California to Minnesota to start college at just 17 years old. When my grandmother brought in the roll of film for developing, the photo company selected this shot to be posted in the window of the drugstore in town!

Mom looks so pretty in her summer dress--and so excited to be starting a new adventure. She's still very adventurous, always heading off to another far-flung corner of the world.
