4 Humidity-Fighting Hairstyle Tips

Celebrity hairstylist Ken Paves shares frizz-fighting tips for keeping hair gorgeous when things heat up

Summer humidity doesn't have to equal frizzy hair. Celebrity hairstylist Ken Paves shares his favorite tricks for keeping celeb clients like Jennifer Lopez and Jessica Simpson looking their best, whatever the weather.

“It’s taken years of work, but women have discovered how chic the minimalist look is and how perfect it is for super humid weather!” says Paves of his take on the modern ponytail. And although he’s definitely not talking about a sporty on-the-run look,  the steps are just as easy. “Simply create a ponytail that is high at the crown and slick it back with a serum,” he says. “Finish off the look with a strong hold hairspray so not a stand of hair comes loose!”

“I always get asked by my clients on how to switch up the look of a boring bun, but in an easy and effortless way,” says Paves, who also works with Eva Longoria. “A loose chignon is a great style to wear when you’re not having a great hair day or have ‘second-day’ hair." The simplest way to create the look is to fake it with a hair accessory similar to Paves’s own Hairdo Style-A-Do. In addition to getting you out the door in record time, “it will add more volume to your chignon.”

“When you have bangs or short hairstyles, it tends to stick to your face in this humid heat,” says Paves, whose solution is as simple as it is stylish. “To keep hair off face, use a headband,” adding that he especially loves the fresh look of braid-mimicking styles like the Hairdo Braid Band, because they ”blend into hair and create a finished look.”

“It doesn’t make sense to fight with your hair and use straighteners and heat-styling tools when I guarantee the 100% humidity will win!” says Ken. “It’s best to work with your natural texture — just be sure to use the right products that will enhance your natural wavy, curly or straight locks.”
