We asked Joy Berry -- educator, child development and parenting specialist (and someone who really knows how to talk to kids) -- to give us a few tips on getting the summer safety message across. To demonstrate her technique and the effect it has on young children, she also invited us to watch her presentation before a group of 4,5 and 6-year-olds!
While most kids look forward to summer with as much anticipation as they do Christmas, most moms are never quite as enthusiastic about this time of year.
Watch Joy talk to kids about summer safety.
One reason is the challenge of keeping kids busy and out of trouble, but a bigger concern is the matter of keeping kids safe. The fact that most major accidents involving children happen in the summertime only contributes to the already high level of parental anxiety about the season.
It's virtually impossible to protect your children from all harm. You just can't be by their sides 24/7, and even if you could, danger is often unpredictable and can originate from improbable sources. The solution? Teach your children how to keep themselves safe.
