The Super Bowl is one sports event that even a non-football-fan can love -- if not for the food (seven-layer dip, anybody?), then definitely for the commercials. In anticipation of Super Bowl XLIV (airing Sunday at 7 p.m.), CBS is showing Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials tonight at 8 p.m. The show will focus on the best commercials of the '00s. We're not sure what will make the cut, but here are five of our personal favorites from the past three years:
Coca Cola's "Balloon Fight," 2008
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is adorably thwarted when balloon versions of Family Guy's Stewie and cartoon hero Underdog fight over a giant inflatable Coke. The best part: perpetual loser Charlie Brown ends up the winner.
Tide, "My Talking Stain," 2008
What's more distracting than talking to someone with something in their teeth, or toilet paper on their shoe... or a big coffee stain on their shirt? This ad for "Tide to Go" hilariously captures that awkwardness, with a talking stain spouting gibberish over a job candidate's interview.
E*Trade, "Talking Baby," 2009
We love all of E*Trade's talking baby ads, but this one -- with an infant so excited about stocks and bonds, he breaks into a rendition of Mr. Mister's "Broken Wings" -- takes the cake.
The Late Show with David Letterman, "Super Bowl of Love," 2007
Short, sweet and thoroughly unexpected, this pairing of Oprah and long-time rival David Letterman was a definite Super Bowl highlight.
Hulu, "Alec in Huluwood," 2009
Not many companies advertise themselves as "an evil plot to destroy the world," but that's what makes Hulu special. In addition to the clever slogan and alien conspiracy, we get Alec Baldwin doing a clever take on his corporate-executive 30 Rock character.
