Aerosmith, *NSync, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, and Nelly (2001)
The New York Giants don't like to bring up Super Bowl XXXV in Tampa, Fla., where they lost to the Baltimore Ravens. On the other hand, pop music lovers never want to forget it. During the height of pop-band mania in 2001, who better to perform during the halftime show than *N SYNC and Britney Spears? To broaden the range of viewers, Aerosmith, Nelly and Mary J. Blige were also added into the mix, bringing in some rock, hip hop and soul to the show. The result was a mash-up extravaganza that could only have been produced by MTV. The boys of *NSYNC -- Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone, J.C. Chasez, Lance Bass and Chris Kirkpatrick -- perfomed hits "Bye Bye Bye" and "It's Gonna Be Me", alternating with the Steven Tyler-fronted Aerosmith rocking out to "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" and "Jaded." Britney finally appeared to gyrate her hips, flirt with Tyler, and strut around with her then-boyfriend Timberlake for the show-stopping finale performance of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way." Mary J. Blige and Nelly also added their vocal stylings to the all-star number.
