Super Doable 2-Step Beauty Tips From Backstage at New York Fashion Week S/S 2014

We went behind the scenes during Fashion Week to hunt down the best (and easiest) hair and makeup tricks used by pros

Curling Iron + Straight Wrist = Bedhead

“Short clamping,” an industry trick for creating the sexy waves such as those found at Diane Von Furstenberg, couldn’t be simpler. Clamp your curling iron onto a section of hair at mid-shaft. Resist the urge to twist your wrist, and instead release the clip to create a slight bend. Repeat all the way down the length of your hair.

Cat Liner + White Shadow = Giant Eyes

Sophia Loren might have been the starting point for this cat eye at Kate Spade, but when you add a dusting of luminous white liner underneath the lower lashes you not only modernize the classic look, you visibly widen eyes.

Orange Lipstick + a Pinky = Pretty Pout

If the idea of orange lipstick doesn't exactly leave you feeling glad about the season's makeup trends, you might be pleased to learn that when applied right, the color is even more flattering to many skintones than bluish reds. This lip at DKNY (created using Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids in  #890 Neon Red) looks bright but not overwhelming because it's applied directly from the tube and then softened at the edges using a finger, explains lead makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury.

Nude + Bright = Office-Friendly Nail Art

Ruffian proved that nail can be work appropriate by painting on elegant sweeps of complementary colors created with a new collection of polishes in partnership with Birchbox.

Powder + Pigment = The Perfect Lip Stain

nyfw monique lhuillier  Makeup artists amped up the effects of traditional lip stain at Monique Lhuillier by topping it with a few taps of super-saturated red M.A.C Pigment powder, which when done at home creates a lip hue that's even more intense and longer lasting.

Beach Spray + Rough Touch = Long Lasting Updo

Stylists at Peter Som roughly tousled models’ hair using Wella Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Hairspray before pulling back and pinning in place. Texturizing in this way goes beyond creating a rocker-meets-surfer vibe. It prevents hair from slipping out of any style of updo for hours on end.

Nude Skin + Coral Lip = Relaxed Glamour

nyfw christian siriano Christian Siriano’s spring collection was inspired by a trip to Mexico, so natural skin and breezy tousled hair defined his beauty look. The gorgeous coral-red lip came courtesy of Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Muse, a hue that looks glamorous but not overly primped.

Curling Rod + Half Wrap = Undone Elegance

bcbgmaxazria fashion week DIY:

Stylists created sexy waves at BCBGMAXAZRIA by wrapping only the mid-shaft of hair around a curling iron, leaving the tips and roots with their natural texture.
