What kid doesn't dream about being superhuman, dazzling one and all with supersized powers of speed, agility, strength, or heightened sensory perception? But what about the lesser-known powers, such as the mindbending ability to find loose change in the depths of the family car? Or the jaw-dropping aptitude for reading words backward? How about an undiscovered gift for speed-bagging groceries? Ordinary activities turn into extraordinary undertakings by the superdudes in your house.
What's the Palooza?
Become your own superhero by designing a cool costume to match your special powers. Great at doing dishes? Turn into Dish Man, armed with rubber gloves and a spray bottle to defend the universe from dirty cups and glasses. Can you draw a crowd with your bubblegum-blowing skills? Transform yourself into Bubble Kid, pack your pockets with the gum of your choice, and snap your bubbles to scare away intruders.
Who can play? Ages 3 to 6
What do we need? An old pillowcase or fabric for a cape, felt or fabric paint or markers for lettering, sunglasses, boots, gloves, or other accessories of your own design.
Running time? A couple of hours.
What's Your Story?
Flesh out your alter ego by inventing the story of how your superhero came to be. Invent a planet where your superhero came from or an explanation of how your superhero came upon his powers, such as Peter Parker's radioactive spider bite or Dr. David Banner's gamma radiation exposure. With a notebook, markers, and a superstrong imagination, create a comic-book tale of how your superhero came to be.
