A divorce from Tom Cruise might have been the right move for Katie Holmes, but was it the right thing for their daughter Suri? A new report has come out claiming the 6-year-old is having a difficult time adjusting to her new life and separated parents.
We've seen Holmes and her daughter go on plenty of low-key adventures over the summer, be it teaching Suri how to ride a bike or gallivanting around New York City. But Suri was used to a more extravagant lifestyle than the one she has now when her parents were together -- case in point: Cruise took her on a $6,000 helicopter ride when he spent time with her recently -- and Suri isn't doing a good job with the change.
"[Holmes] said the divorce has been hard on Suri and she's acting out," a friend of the actress reportedly told Us Weekly. "Katie says no to some things, but gives a little leeway. She knows Tom is going to spoil her."
Suri started first grade earlier this month at Avenues in New York City, a private school that comes with a hefty pricetag. The school's strict dress code means Suri will be able to blend in with her peers since she can't show off her impressive fashionable side.
"[Holmes] wants [her] to fit in and be more of a normal kid," an insider tells Us.
Holmes opened up in a recent interview with Women's Wear Daily, saying she is trying to do something new every day without "being afraid to fail." Some can lump the divorce to Cruise into that category.
"Who cares? At least you tried," she said. "It's usually the people who haven't tried who are the naysayers."
