Once again, Justin Timberlake is one step ahead of us! Last week, we reviewed his long-anticipated new album, The 20/20 Experience, which hits stores tomorrow. Now, we learn that this new album is actually a double album, with the second half dropping this fall. According to a message board post from Timberlake's pal and frequent collaborator Questlove, "20/20 Vol. 2 comes out in Nov. 10 songs now ... 10 songs later = 20 vision." And we're smacking our foreheads for not figuring it out ourselves!
JT even confirmed the news at his record release party! "I need to clear up a rumor," Timberlake said of the rumblings that this was only "the first half of the album." He added, "Those rumors are true."
We shouldn't really be surprised, though. If there's one thing Justin Timberlake has proved over the years, it's that he always has something new up his sleeve. It all began with his shockingly smooth transition from boy band heartthrob to sexy R&B star. Then, just as he was on top of the pop world, he started taking roles in indie dramas. By the time FutureSex/LoveSounds came out in 2006, he'd decided to segue into comedy, making himself a regular fixture on Saturday Night Live.
Then in 2010, the six-time Grammy Award winner really stunned us by declaring that he was leaving music behind to focus on his acting career. Sure enough, he got Oscar buzz with The Social Network and proved his box-office appeal in Bad Teacher and Friends with Benefits. And just as we were thinking that his pop-star years were behind him, Timberlake revealed that he'd secretly been working on a new album. Three months later, we find out that it's two albums.
Which brings us to now. What else could JT possibly do to surprise us? Star in a Broadway show? Take the lead in a TV series? Become a professional bocce player? (Okay, probably not that last one.) The point is, Timberlake is the rare superstar who's not afraid to throw himself into new things. That makes him exciting to watch, easy to love, and totally poised for world domination. Hmm -- wonder if he's ever considered getting into politics?
