One in Five Women Don't Remember the Last Time They Felt Beautiful

A survey shows that 20 percent of us can't recall the last compliment we received

Loving your colleague’s new daring haircut? Covet that mom at school dropoff’s boots? Think the barista who keeps you caffeinated day in and day out has an adorable smile? For the love of God, let your admiration be known!

It would seem compliments, while generally much appreciated, are in sore demand.

The U.K.’s Daily Mail reports a recent survey of British women conducted by Dove found 20 percent of women can’t recall the last time someone made them feel beautiful thanks to a compliment, and another one in five are uncomfortable being praised.

Also of note, the survey says that giving a compliment makes 45 percent of respondents feel good about themselves, and most women want to be complimented by their partner, followed by a stranger, friends and kids, respectively, according to the newspaper.

Here’s the thing: More than half of those surveyed agree doling out compliments is important, the newspaper notes, but 27 percent don’t believe the kind words bestowed upon them.

It’s time to stop with the self-loathing — just listen to Judi James, a social behavior and body expert.

“Compliments should make us feel amazing about ourselves, but body confidence can be so low amongst U.K. women that we’re left feeling embarrassed and awkward,” she tells the Daily Mail. “Instead of feeling embarrassed, hold your head up high and smile. We need to start believing when good things are said about us — this is essential to develop a positive relationship with beauty.”

It’s time to speak up and love ourselves, ladies! Oh, and by the way, you look mah-velous!
