Ethan Zohn is a consummate Survivor. After enjoying two years in remission, the reality star, who won Survivor: Africa, has announced that his Hodgkin's lymphoma has returned.
"I have taken all the fear instilled by this disease & transformed it into something fear itself should be afraid of," Zohn, 37, twittered Wednesday afternoon.
A humanitarian who runs the Grassroots Soccer organization, Zohn shared a link on his Twitter feed to an interview he granted People for its latest issue.
In the profile, Zohn explains that he first learned about his cancer's recurrence on Sept. 14, when his doctors broke the bad news that they'd found spots of new cancer cells in his chest.
"I don't want fear or cancer to define me, but it's always in the back of your mind," he told People. But Zohn admits that when he first learned the cancer had returned, he was livid.
"I was just angry," he said. "I was scared that I was going to die."
Zohn had recently returned to the world of reality television by competing with his girlfriend of eight years, fellow Survivor champ Jenna Morasca, on CBS' The Amazing Race. Zohn says Morasca has once again risen to the occasion to support him through his battle with cancer.
"She's taking it like the rock star that she is," Ethan said. "We're both filled with fear and anger and anxiety and gratitude and frustration. But there's so much love there. It's this whole spectrum of emotions."
