Susan Boyle Launches Amateur Singing Competition

Have you ever dreamed a dream like Susan Boyle's: to be plucked out of obscurity and made an international celebrity? If so, Boyle may be able to make that dream come true. The Scottish chart-topper and YouTube sensation wants to share her good karma with another amateur musician, by inviting one lucky karaoke fiend to sing on her next record.

"When I did Britain's Got Talent," Boyle, 49, says on her website, "I was given a chance by Simon Cowell to show what I could do. 'Susan's Search' is about giving other people an opportunity." (You don't often hear Simon Cowell held up as a model of good will, but it does seem appropriate in this case!)

If you're interested in competing in 'Susan's Search,' all you need to do is make a video of yourself singing "Silent Night" and upload it to Boyle's YouTube page. (There's an instructional video, in case you require tips like "Choose a quiet well lit room to record.") The winner will sing a duet with Boyle on her next album, the follow-up to her bestselling 2009 record, I Dreamed a Dream. Boyle doesn't say whether you get to choose the duet -- but if you do, may we suggest the Michael Jackson/Paul McCartney classic "The Girl is Mine"?
