Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle has had a whirlwind rise to fame, going from an average U.K. civilian to an overnight singing sensation. But members of her family are now concerned that the 48-year-old is suffering from the pressures of stardom.
"The traveling and the whole [fame] thing is exhausting. She still has her anxieties and her loneliness," her brother Gerry told People in their latest issue. Her other brother, John, agrees with his sibling about his sister's fragile state, claiming, "She needs 24-hour care. She needs to be looked after."
Since being discovered on the hit TV series, where judges and viewers teared up over her surprisingly moving vocals, Boyle obtained legions of well-wishing fans, but her close friends and family say she is now suffering emotionally. She was recently very shaken by a burglary at her home last month, which prompted her to install 24-hour security outside her residence.
"She knows she can come up to me anytime," says her longtime friend Lorraine Campbell. "If she's upset, she'll stay the night. Security would bring her up to my house. I take her home in the morning. Susan stayed with me a week ago. Nighttime is a lonely time for her."
