After getting out of a long relationship, some women turn to single mixers or soul-searching vacations. Susan Sarandon has found ping-pong! The 63-year-old Oscar winner -- who split in 2009 from partner Tim Robbins, after 23 years together -- made her first reality-TV appearance earlier this year during an emotional, fascinating episode of NBC's Who Do You Think You Are? And now, the movie star says she's creating her own series about her favorite sport.
Sarandon co-owns her very own ping-pong nightclub (yes, you read that correctly) in New York City, called SPiN, frequented by A-list clientele such as Scarlett Johansson, George Clooney and Jamie Foxx. According to People, she's now putting together a TV series which follows the growing cult of ping-pong enthusiasts, and some immensely talented players (she insists "one of them probably will" make it to the Olympics).
The actress, who has dubbed herself the "Johnny Appleseed of ping-pong" when it comes to making the sport trendy, says that her upcoming series "won't be the Jersey Shore" -- instead, she describes it to People as "an episodic documentary. We’re trying to invent something you haven’t seen before that follows a bunch of people in this crazy little subculture.”
"We’re just in the early filming stages now," she adds. "I’m not sure where we’re going to land in terms of our home, because we want the tone of it to be funny and quite different than anything else that anybody’s seen before."
