Suzanne Somers

In 2001, the actress best known for her role as Chrissy on Three’s Company -- and later as the Thighmaster spokeswoman -- was diagnosed with breast cancer. Somers had surgery and underwent radiation, a treatment she says she would reconsider today, but refused chemotherapy. Now 63, Somers is an advocate for alternative therapies and avoids western pharmaceuticals. While certain practices she encourages, like eating a balanced diet, exercising and reducing stress, are widely accepted across medical disciplines as risk-lowering behaviors, the actress has caused controversy by advising against chemotherapy. The American Cancer Society have voiced concern over her medical opinions given her lack of formal training.
