If you love fast food and you love breakfast, you're going to be pretty excited about a new creation from Taco Bell that may be coming to your town: the waffle taco.
Let's repeat that: The waffle taco. We're talking a yummy, carby, golden waffle folded around eggs and sausage in the shape of -- you guessed it -- a taco. An initial test-run in Southern California was super successful -- it became the most popular morning menu item where it was offered -- so it's being rolled out in more locations starting this week, the L.A. Times reports.
Starting tomorrow, more than 100 Taco Bell locations around the country will start selling waffle tacos, according to the AP.
Honestly, the debut of the waffle taco brings up two food trends we're pretty happy about. First, we're obsessed with delicious carb concoctions. (Cronuts much?) Waffles seem poised to be the next carb darling in the cultural spotlight. New York City has a new waffle restaurant and L.A. has several of its own, including the aptly named The Waffle and the famous Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles.
Second, the early success of the waffle taco (not to mention the ongoing success of the cronut and its numerous imitators) shows the staying power of the food mash-up. Need we mention the Krispy Kreme Sloppy Joe, the Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich from Dunkin' Donuts and the Pop-Tart Ice Cream Sandwich from Carl's Jr.? We even created our own dream list of wish-they-existed food mash-ups. (Figs in a blanket, anyone?). Sure, we might end up with clogged arteries and too-tight clothes if we actually ate like this all the time -- but it's fun to dream!
Would you try Taco Bell's new waffle taco?
