"What I've realized is that taking one hour out of the week to go take a dance class is well worth the money. Boy, do I look forward to Thursday nights!"

"Every Tuesday night, along with three other women, I volunteer at 'The Sanctuary' -- a temporary shelter for homeless teens. We plan a meal for the kids the week before and bring in food for anywhere from 10 to 20 kids at a time. Aside from working with the kids, I also do a monthly newsletter geared especially for the volunteers. Becoming a volunteer was definitely the right thing for my 'mental health.' I get out of the house one night a week to do something important, which makes me feel good about myself. I've made new friends. I'm appreciated. I have something to look forward to. And I'm setting a good example for my own children while helping other children."

In Hot Water
"I'd go into my bathroom and lock the door. I'd light some candles, put some Enya in the CD player and have a hot bath in our jetted tub. I'd stay there until I forgot why I was there in the first place. Then, after I knew my kids were fast asleep, I'd get out of the tub, sneak into their rooms and kiss their sweet little cheeks goodnight. Then I'd climb into bed with my husband."

"I'd take a relaxing long soothing bath... ahhhhhhhh... with lavender-scented water."

"I made arrangements to go to the New Jersey shore (about 45 minutes away) for 24 hours, alone. I stayed in a tiny room at a tiny motel, and all I took was a bathing suit, change of clothes, two novels and an afghan I'd been trying to finish knitting for a long time. I stopped on the way and got Milano cookies. I read in the room and read more while sitting on the beach. The only words I said out loud the whole time were, 'I'd like two slices of plain pizza.' (I still haven't finished the afghan.)"
