Take an Improv Class

Nothing teaches you to think on your feet, trust your instincts and roll with any situation like an improvisation class. Kelly Chase of Pittsburgh drew on many of the skills she picked up in improv class when she launched her new costume jewelry web site. “Improv’s given me a lot of confidence in myself and my ability to interact with anyone,” she says. “Women always worry about what we look like and how we fit in. But in these classes, you learn to stop editing yourself and be present in the moment. You accept the things that come to you -- any change in circumstance -- and build on it.” Improv also encourages you to embrace those, shall we say, offbeat qualities you may have squelched back in school because they got you ridiculed. But in improv, Chase has found, those qualities can be an asset. “Realizing that those quirky things about yourself can make you a leader is very powerful," she says.
