Talk to a Dietician

If you’re not vegetarian, you may not know how to make the necessary dietary substitutions for meat. “The most sensible approach is to consult a professional, such as a pediatrician or registered dietician, to make sure you and your child understand his nutritional needs,” says Nicolas Stettler, M.D., associate professor of pediatrics and epidemiology at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. “You should be aware of the nutrients that may be at risk for deficiency, such as iron, if his diet isn’t balanced.” Find a registered dietician near you.
