5 pain-inducing traps (6 Photos)
Arthritis pain trap #2: Be careful of what you think about all day, says Dr. Symreng. If you’re always focusing on the pain—by talking about it or going to doctor’s appointments all day—that’s what your life will consist of. And talking and thinking about your pain may actually make it worse.
Overcome it: “By changing what you think about, you can change the way your life feels,” says Dr. Symreng. When you’re out with others, find other things to talk about, such as activities you enjoy, movies or even the weather, she says. “Tell people you’re closest to not to ask you how you feel all the time, but to focus on more positive things, like what your plans are for today,” says Dr. Symreng. Don’t feel obligated to always answer truthfully if someone asks you how you feel. It’s okay to say, “I’m okay today,” and then change the subject.
