"Tap into Your Power" --Beryl Bender Birch, Age 69

After a lifetime of athletics -- including racing sled dogs -- and ashtanga yoga practice, Beryl Bender Birch was shocked when her doctors told her she'd need a hip replacement. "I said, 'You've got to be kidding me. I'm Beryl Bender Birch. I don't do hip replacements.'" Birch eventually accepted her doctor's advice and had the surgery, and has bounced back "at the speed of light." These days you can find her doing the challenging poses in ashtanga's primary and second series -- and loving them.

Just shy of her 70th birthday, Birch credits yoga's power to reduce stress for keeping her healthy and vital. She meditates every day and recommends it to anyone, suggesting that you start with 12 minutes a day. "Twelve minutes is doable!" she laughs. "It reduces stress hormones, lowers your blood pressure, helps with sleep and anxiety disorders and all kinds of good stuff!"
