Home Improvement's Taran Noah Smith has now joined the tragically long list of ex-child stars with mug shots. Smith, who played Tim Allen's youngest son Mark on the hit '90s sitcom, was arrested early Wednesday morning in Los Angeles for alleged DUI and drug possession.
TMZ reports that Smith, now 27, was approached by police around 1 a.m. while sitting in his 1998 Honda Accord -- which was parked in front of a fire hydrant. Officers reportedly smelled a "strong odor" of marijuana when they approached the car, and believed that Smith was under the influence. After searching the car, they found a supply of hash. Smith is now reportedly in custody in L.A. County, where he is being booked for DUI and felony drug possession.
For eight years on Home Improvement, Smith played Mark, the quirky, sensitive youngest son who grew into a rebellious adolescent. After the show went off the air in 1999, he stepped out of the limelight. At the age of 18, he successfully sued his parents for control of his $1.5 million dollar trust find, consisting of the money he earned on the show.
"I started Home Improvement when I was 7 and the show ended when I was 16," he said in 2001. "I never had the chance to decide what I wanted to do with my life. When I was 16, I knew that I didn't want to act anymore."
At age 17, Smith had a short-lived marriage to a woman 16 years his senior; together, they founded the vegan cheese company Playfood.
In September 2011, Smith participated in Entertainment Weekly's Home Improvement reunion.
