Mark your shopping calendars! Our favorite decoupage artist John Derian has a new limited-edition collection debuting at Target on September 5. His 2008 Target products were a huge hit with customers, so these new products will likely fly off the shelves.
Best known for his handmade (and high-end) decoupaged plates and home décor items, Derian has built a highly-collectable line of products with a massive following. With his latest Target collection, he's transferred his iconic designs onto products made of materials like thick melamine and ceramic—meaning these designs are available for a fraction of the cost of Derian's typical goods. The line includes dinnerware, storage containers, home decor items and stationery in his signature antiqued and quirky style. With prices in the $2 to $25 range, I’ll be buying (and giving) a lot of Derian this year!
Here are a few of my favorites:
The House-Mouse tray ($13, pictured above) features a sweet illustration worthy of wall display or cheese and cracker service (a little tongue-in-cheek, considering its name!).
I scored this cool Ceramic Marble mug ($5) at a preview for the collection, and it’s been put to good use ever since! Inspired by marbled paper, it works well for holding tea or stowing pencils.
The details of this Stationery Set in Fine Script ($10) are incredible: the faux-aged paper, decorative scroll envelopes and wax seal stickers make me want to ditch e-mail correspondence for good.
Multiple melamine plates form this cheerful Three-Tier Dahlia tray ($15). I love being able to see the graphic floral design when the tray is empty, but it’s also perfect for filling with sweet treats.
Though they’re called appetizer plates, these small dishes would be fun as loose change catchalls and soap holders. At $2 a pop, I can afford to have them in every room!
Be sure to shop early! Derian’s products will only be carried through October 24.
