Taylor Lautner: My Chemistry with Kristen Stewart Is For Real

In last year's smash hit Twilight, Taylor Lautner played a small supporting part as the baby-faced Jacob Black. This Friday he returns in New Moon as a grown-up version of his former self -- bigger, stronger and ready to be a leading man. The 17-year-old even gained 30 lbs. of muscle between the two films to show how Jacob transforms from a boy to a fierce werewolf.

But one trait of Jacob's Taylor didn't take on was his elevated body temperature -- a quality he could have benefited from while filming in the bitter cold of Vancouver. The actor says one of the movie's pivotal scenes was shot in the rain in 35-degree weather. "That was a pretty painful day," he tells iVillage. "And the thing is, I can't look like I'm cold because Jacob has to be 108 degrees."

Being more in the spotlight not only catapulted Taylor's career -- it established him as a tabloid gossip subject, especially with his alleged romance with country star Taylor Swift. "You kind of just let that stuff happen," he says of the media rumors and speculation about his love life. "You just continue to stay focused on the work as much as possible."

Taylor's costars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart -- and their rumored romance -- are also subject to constant media obsession. But the actor says his onscreen chemistry with Kristen comes from "a relationship that's very similar to Jacob and Bella's." Taylor says, "We're very honest with each other. We're very open."
