Taylor Swift has received the birthday gift that no pop star would ever want: A break-in. A fan pretending to be her boyfriend broke into her home earlier this morning. He got over a fence and past a security gate before being stopped by guards at her Nashville pad.
Fortunately Swift was still in the U.K. celebrating her birthday with her real boyfriend, One Direction singer Harry Styles, and wasn't at her house during the invasion. Police got the man, later identified as 24-year-old Jacob Kulke, into their custody by 2 a.m. He reportedly had a pocketknife on him.
According to a local news station, Kulke told security guards that he was Swift's boyfriend and that he wanted to surprise her for her birthday. Earlier that day, he tweeted a "happy birthday" message to her that seemed to imply he was in Nashville.
Swift should be very grateful she wasn't at home at the time Kulke broke in. He has a criminal record that includes domestic abuse, battery and disorderly conduct. There is a warrant out for his arrest in Colorado for a probation violation, and he was also arrested for second-degree burglary in April. He is currently being held on $10,000 bail at Davidson County Jail.
Sadly, the 23-year-old pop star just opened up to Cosmopolitan UK about how much stalker threats scare her. "I get nervous when I have stalker incidents," she says. "I try not to talk too much about it because it scares me. Sometimes you get a dude who kind of wants to steal you. That’s why I’m so grateful I have people looking after me, like [my bodyguard] Dennis."
Swift adds, "Over the past couple of years it’s got worse. I get told if there’s been an attempt or a threat. My security text me a picture and say, 'Look out for this dude; he's driven across the country, he's off his meds,' or something like that. No one has ever been successful in getting into my house or anything like that. I have an amazing security team."
