You already know that we love Etsy... and hey, you probably do too! What's not to love about spending time (maybe, uh, hours) browsing a beauitful, one stop shop of handmade and vintage delights? But the best may have yet to come - have you ever tried Etsy Alchemy?
Alchemy is a section in Etsy's "Ways to Shop" that offers browsers a unique opportunity - to ASK for their homemade dream to come to life... and at a price of their choosing! Always wanted a unique patchwork pillow sewn in your grandma's favorite colors? Done. Covet a nightstand made of bottle caps? Somebody can do that for you. You make the request, people bid to build it for you (a bid just means they offer up how much they're willing to make it for) and voila! You choose your maker and wait on your prize.
I recently found myself in the perfect predicament to test Alchemy out. Having moved into a new apartment, I was tasked with decorating the bathroom. While browsing what felt like thousands of stores in order to find the perfect accesorries for my tiny washroom, I fell head over heels in love with a ruffled shower curtain. It was warm and bright and loud and beautiful, but it cost $118. For a shower curtain. Yep.
Enter Alchemy. I posted a photo of my dream shower curtain, with a request to have it built for around half the store's price in the next month. I wasn't sure what to expect, but bids came rolling in and I found someone merely an hour after making the request. When my item arrived in the mail a few weeks later, I was thrilled to see how closely it resembled my inspiration. Dreamy! And for half the price!
I've been sorta obsseively using Alchemy ever since, and snapping photos when I'm shopping of things I can't afford to buy but would love to have made at some point. How did no one think of this sooner?
