By the time Thanksgiving rolls around on Thursday, most of your favorite TV characters will have already celebrated it. On Tuesday, characters on Fox's New Girl and The Mindy Project, NBC's Go On, and ABC's Don't Trust the B*** in Apt. 23 all talked turkey with holiday-themed episodes. NBC's Guys With Kids and Chicago Fire are airing Turkey Day-styled episodes on Wednesday, at 8:30 p.m. ET and 10 p.m. ET, respectively. But what's on TV on the Big Day itself? Holiday specials and lots and lots of rerun marathons. Here's a sampling.
The 86th Anniversary Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (NBC and CBS, Thursday, 9 a.m. E.T.) Everybody else is watching it (well, 50 million viewers, anyway), so why not you? On NBC, Today's Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie and Al Roker will helpfully identify the procession of TV, movie and Broadway stars marching by; The Insider cohosts Kevin Frazier and Brooke Anderson will be doing the honors on CBS, presumably from a slightly less prime spot.
Punkin Chunkin (Science Channel, Thursday, 8 pm E.T.) This is an annual televised contest that determines whose pumpkin-catapulting contraption is the best. Participants compete without irony, so you'd better keep a straight face, too.
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (ABC, Wednesday and Thursday, 8 p.m. ET) Lucy will hold the football for Charlie Brown. He'll take a running start to kick it. And then…you'll have to watch to find out!
Bad25 (ABC, Thursday, 9:30 p.m. ET) Spike Lee sets his documentary lens on Michael Jackson, reflecting on the King of Pop's creative process behind the album, Bad. Click here for a sneak peek.
James Bond Movie Marathon (SyFy, starting at 12 a.m. ET) Which is your favorite 007 flick? It's probably airing at some point on SyFy, which will show Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace with Daniel Craig, and Dr. No with Sean Connery, among others.
Thanksgiving Movie Marathon (FX, starting at 8 a.m. ET) Among the family favorites airing are Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Kung Fu Panda and Shrek Forever After.
Thanksgiving With Your Godfather Marathon (AMC, starting at 11:30 a.m. ET) Two consecutive airings of The Godfather and The Godfather Part II. Apparently, Part III didn't make the cut. (We understand why.)
Castle Marathon (TNT, starting at 10 a.m.) Haven't seen this show yet? Now is your chance to catch up!
Cake Boss Marathon (TLC, 6 a.m. – 11 a.m. ET) followed by a Breaking Amish Marathon (TLC, 11a.m. – 9 p.m. ET) Seems an odd pairing, but then, that second show is just odd, period.
Million Dollar Listing: Los Angeles Marathon (Bravo, starting at 12 p.m. ET) Handsome real estate gurus show you around mansions. What's not to love?
Restaurant Impossible Marathon (Food Network, starting at 10 a.m. ET) And you thought cooking Thanksgiving dinner was hard? Try having to turn around a failing restaurant in just two days!
