When America met Simon Cowell, he was the brutally honest judge on the hit singing competition, American Idol. After nine seasons, the Brit left the show to be a judge on X Factor. Other than his harsh criticisms, there is one thing about the soon-to-be dad that hasn't changed through the years -- his wardrobe!
While most celebrities opt for designer clothes to spend their millions on, Simon continues to sport very boring and straighford, but tight-fitting, tees! And boy, after all this time they have barely changed!
As the judge turns 54, let's take a look back at his never-changing obsession with the tees!
Courtesy of Demi Lovato/TwiTTERSimon's V-neck tees date back to 1979! At 19 years old, the John Travolta lookalike spruced up the simple white T-Shirt with suspenders. Even Demi Lovato poked fun at her fellow X Factor judge. "Well, well. Look at this ancient pic I found!! Same t-shirt, same middle part.. Recognize this @SimonCowell??" the "Heart Attack" singer posted on May 29.
Jean-Paul Aussenard/WireImageFast-forward 23 years later -- and the American Idol judge was still sporting plain tees! Thankfully, Simon's style evolved from V-neck to crew-neck. The music pro was all smiles during the American Idol press tour in Pasadena, Calif., on July 22, 2002. (Perhaps he was thinking about buying more shirts with his Idol paycheck?)
Amy Graves/WireImageBy 2003, Simon released a memoir entitled, I Don't Mean To Be Rude, But... which talks about his childhood and record industry experiences. It would not be Simon Cowell's memoir without his two favorite things on the cover: a microphone and a black T-Shirt!
Frazer Harrison/Getty ImagesWe hope the pout has nothing to do with his tees! The television producer looked displeased at the American Idol phone launch in L.A. on April 28, 2004. Maybe it had to do with Simon's rocky year. Creator of American Idol, Simon Fuller, sued Cowell over debuting X Factor in the U.K. because he felt it was too similar to his show, Pop Idol.
John Sciulli/WireImageSimon opted for a gray tee at the UCLA Pavillion in Westwood, Calif., on April 2, 2005. The effortless look is definately fitting!
Gustavo Caballero/Getty ImagesWe would be smiling too if we were Simon! Not only had American Idol turned into a nationwide phenomenon by this time, but Simon brought Leona Lewis, who he mentored on X Factor, to America, and helped her reach No. 1 on the Billboard charts.

Andrew Hone/Getty Images for Red BullAnnouncing his departure from Idol to focus on the U.S. launch of X Factor, many wondered how Simon could still don tees after all his fame and fortune. According to Mail Online, Simon's plain tees aren't cheap. He buys his V-necks from Armani by the dozen for $99, before tossing them out after only wearing them a few times. For his crew-necks, he gets them from Nicole Farhi for $60 each. His style may be plain, but it's expensive.
Kevin Winter/Getty ImagesNope, this isn't the same photo! In a T-shirt, jeans and aviator sunglasses, Simon looked almost identical to the year before as he arrived to X Factor auditions in L.A. on May 8, 2011.
Sean Mathis/FilmMagicOnce again, Simon looks exactly the same for X Factor auditions a year later in Austin, Texas, on May 24, 2012. With a friendly smile and down-to-earth style, who knew Simon could be so harsh!

Keep those thumbs up, Simon. The judge confirmed that he is expecting a baby boy with girlfriend Lauren Silverman -- the soon-to-be ex-wife of his good friend, Andrew Silverman. We cannot wait to see Simon's first child dressed in baby tees. Like father, like son!
