'Thintervention': Episode 3 Recap

Jackie's got something up her glutes

This week was all about confronting pain. And Jackie Warner was the Pain Maker.
Looking even more insanely ripped than usual, she gave everyone the head’s up that “Today, I’m gonna kick your asses.” When Nikki showed up late, claiming she had food poisoning (but we all know she was out late with Mr. Goose), the rest of the group faced punishment via treadmill. The lesson: “When one of you fails, the rest of you fail.”
As they ran backwards and sideways in an effort to challenge new muscles and lifted weights to the point of muscle failure, tension festered in the gym. People were swearing at each other, dropping F-bombs left and right as they attempted to push through the pain. Stacy-the-Crier and Shay-the-Diva got called out for taking needless breaks and Nikki introduced America to a fabulous new word: Begack, as in “Everyone’s gone begack.” See: Crazy, insane, Lord of the Flies.
To help the cast soothe themselves in a healthy way, Jackie assigned them the task of organizing a healthy comfort food potluck. The idea was to teach them to rely on each other instead of tearing each other down. Mandy hosted, preparing an amazing spread that included sweet potato martinis with toppings like scallops and scallions (posted with calorie count and portion size). Joe brought his “Fat Man’s Diet Cheeseburgers” -- lean buffalo burgers. Jeana brought her chef. Who’s the diva now?

Sitting down to eat, Shay called out Joe for being untrustworthy.  Joe said he’s fine if they’re not friends on the road from Fat Town to Skinnyville because he’s turned off by her I’m-above-this attitude. Joe then called out Stacy for blaming her problems on medical issues. World War III was avoided, but only narrowly.

The next day brought a slew of punishing drill routines -- jumping in hoops, running around cones, 100-yard races, and walking the stadium stairs ‘till they dropped.  Shay’s inner track star emerged, pushing the diva/princess aside, and she earned Joe’s respect by being one of the last two climbing (with him).
At therapy, Jackie asked everyone to bring a picture of themselves as a child in a happy moment. The reason: “You would never speak to a child the way you speak to yourselves,” Jackie explained. For example, you would never call a toddler a fat pig with disgusting thighs, but how many grown women say such hurtful things to themselves? A lot.

Bryan’s pic was of himself as a little boy in a diaper, waving a wig. Bryan would say to him, “You are loved.”
Mandy would tell her younger self, “I’m sorry I made food so important and I’m sorry that’s how I showed love.”
Stacy’s childhood picture brought up memories of her emotionally abusive grandmother who would always call her ugly and fat. “I want you to have the courage and strength to the tell people to stick it where the sun don’t shine when they’re not being supportive,” she would tell her child self, “and that love isn’t conditional.”
Nikki said she would call her younger self an ugly, rotten little brat. Everyone was shocked, and she broke down in tears.
No one lost much weight this week except for Joe who fulfilled his goal of dropping five pounds “like Jackie Warner's pants in a gay bar.” Everyone claimed to be eating clean and sticking to the program, leaving Jackie confused and frustrated. In a rare moment of emotion she shed a few tears and urged everyone to stick with her on this journey -- she’s not about to let anyone down, and she won’t take one pound a week for an answer.
