The space: Crafting and sewing supplies are displayed out in the open, rather than hidden in containers, to achieve striking visual interest. Bright and colorful fabric, ribbons in glass jars, and scrapbooking supplies on hanging displays, dress up the workspace and keep creative juices flowing. A comfy pink polka dotted chair, after which the blog is named, is perfect for when Mortenson needs to hand-sew something or simply sit and sketch.
A bookcase from Ikea is the most important piece of storage furniture in the studio, holding fabric that’s organized by color. To keep the stacks uniform Mortenson foldseach cut of fabric using a 5" quilting ruler. “Just lay the ruler down over your fabric (folded still with selvage edges together) and start "rolling" the fabric up around your ruler, pull the ruler out and fold the fabric in half,” says Mortenson. “It's a great trick I learned from and friend and helps me to maximize the space on my bookshelf.”
