When it comes to love, Tiger Woods is back in the game. The legendary golfer, whose marriage to Elin Nordegren imploded in 2009 with a massive cheating scandal, is now in a relationship with world champion ski racer
"I guess it wasn't a well-kept secret but yes, I am dating Tiger Woods," Vonn wrote on her Facebook page. "Our relationship evolved from a friendship into something more over these past few months and it has made me very happy. I don't plan on addressing this further as I would like to keep that part of my life between us, my family and close friends. Thank you for understanding and your continued support!"
Woods wrote a similar post on his own page, confirming that he and Vonn "have become very close and are now dating," and urging fans to respect their privacy.
Like that's going to happen.
Even without taking Tiger's relationship history into account, Vonn and Woods are a buzz-worthy pair. These are two of the most accomplished athletes in the world (and certainly among the best-looking). The New York Times points out that the lovebirds have "14 major golf championships, 76 PGA Tour victories, 2 Olympic medals and 4 overall World Cup titles" between them. It's a match made in ESPN heaven.
But let's go back to Tiger's notorious history of adultery. Can any woman trust him after knowing what he did to his ex-wife? According to Us Weekly, he was determined to start this new relationship with a clean slate.
"He confessed everything in his past to her and stuff -- they're really into each other," said the magazine's source.
Okay, so Tiger has turned over a new leaf, Lindsay is really into him, and they'd like to keep things private. Got it. Now let's talk about the really weird part: those photos.
Along with their Facebook messages, Tiger and Lindsey posted a series of couples portraits: the kind people sometimes have done to go along with a wedding announcement. In the photos, the two athletes are casually dressed and smiling, but they're posing like they're in a Sears photography studio. Why on Earth would they choose to send these cheesy, super-staged pictures out to the world? People in new relationships generally don't get commemorative portraits done, do they? (Is this a thing?)
Maybe it's an innocent gesture, and they thought it would be sweet and show solidarity or something. But paired with the Facebook statements about their relationship, it comes off as a shameless attempt to make headlines -- and provide the press with some nice pictures to go underneath. Not that it's weird for famous people to seek publicity. It's just that, given how badly Tiger's reputation needs an overhaul, he may have an ulterior motive for convincing the world that Lindsey Vonn is in love with him.
Anyhow, it's been four years since Tiger's fall from grace, so maybe he's ready to give this fidelity thing another shot. If it is a real relatoinship, we hope Lindsey doesn't get burned. She does have one big advantage that Nordegren did not: She knows exactly what she's walking into.
