Elin Nordegren isn't the only one pouring her heart out to the media. Tiger Woods appeared at a press conference on Wednesday, where he, too, spoke out about the demise of their marriage and how he's been coping.
Admitting that the divorce "was a lot more difficult than I was letting on," Woods addressed his ex-wife's People interview, where she talked about how tough moving on has been. "I certainly understand that she is sad," he said. "And I feel the same way."
"I wish her the best in everything," the PGA star reiterated at a press conference at The Barclays golf tournament in New Jersey. "It's a sad time in our lives. And we're looking forward to how we can help our kids the best way we possibly can. And that's the most important thing."
Reporters repeatedly asked Woods if he was still in love with Nordegren -- a question that he dodged multiple times. He did say that he would change things if he could.
"My actions certainly led us to this decision," he said, referring to his slew of infidelities. "And I've certainly made a lot of errors in my life and that's something I'm going to have to live with."
Asked if he was "relieved" that their union is officially over, Woods answered, "I don't think that's the word. I think it's just more sadness. Because I don't think you ever – you don't ever go into a marriage looking to get divorced. That's the thing. That's why it is sad."
Woods may not be relieved exactly, but it seems the resolution of his ongoing marital conflicts is having a positive effect on his golf game. He had been struggling on the course for months, but was off to an impressive start Thursday morning at The Barclays in New Jersey -- his first tournament since finalizing his divorce.
"Woods has been driving the ball especially well and getting himself in good positions to make birdies," says The Star-Ledger of New Jersey.
