Beloved Project Runway judge Tim Gunn has always been a bit of a closed book when it comes to his personal life -- he's more of an attentive listener than a sharer. But on Tuesday's edition of his new ABC talk show The Revolution, the 58-year-old style maven opened up -- big-time -- about his love life.
"I haven't had sex in 29 years," the openly gay Gunn admitted on the episode, which focused on tips to jump-starting one's sex life. "Do I feel like less of a person because of it? No."
Even more surprising than the revelation was just how emotional the usually stoic Gunn became when discussing the reason for his nearly three-decade dry spell. Tears in his eyes and shaking a bit, Gunn recounted how an "intense" relationship with a former partner who called things off is what prompted his choice to abstain. "He was impatient with my sexual performance," Gunn revealed, fighting off tears.
Gunn also recalled that his issues with sex began just as AIDS was becoming a major concern -- especially in the gay community. As a result, recalled Gunn, "a lot of people retreated, concerned about their health. I know I certainly was. I'm happy to be healthy and alive, quite frankly."
And, in the end, that was the message Gunn wanted viewers to take away -- that there's more to life than just sex. "I'm a perfectly happy, fulfilled individual," he said.
