All week, Tina Fey's been chatting up her new comedy, Date Night, on the talk-show circuit. Last stop on the publicity train? Where it all began: she's hosting Saturday Night Live (NBC, 11:30 p.m. ET) this weekend! Fey logged nine years on that show, much of it anchoring Weekend Update -- and became the first female head writer in its history. But most fans want just one thing from her tomorrow: Sarah Palin.
Fey's dead-on, dead-funny impersonation of America's most controversial Alaskan was a huge sensation during 2008's high-stakes presidential election, during which Palin joined John McCain's ticket as a VP candidate. Fey's steady string of guest appearances as Palin culminated in a visit from the nominee herself, in an SNL episode that really was "must-see TV." The hilarious Palin schtick earned Fey a 2009 Emmy.
So…will she be donning the little glasses and upswept hair this week for yet another go?
The 39-year-old comedian is in the fourth season of NBC's Emmy-winning 30 Rock, the semi-autobiographical sitcom she created, on which Fey basically impersonates herself: Liz Lemon, head writer of a late-night sketch comedy show. So, is this weekend's SNL appearance an example of life imitating art, imitating life? Live from New York, they know we'll be eating up whatever comedy treats Fey serves up.
