Before we could even work up a worthy argument of why Tina Fey and partner-in-crime Amy Poehler should absolutely, positively, without fail host the Academy Awards in 2014, the 30 Rock star has dashed our hopes. Fey, 42, has stated firmly that she has no desire to host the awards show, despite the fact she and Poehler did a fantastic job at the Golden Globes.
“I just feel like that gig is so hard,” she tells The Huffington Post. “Especially for, like, a woman -- the amount of months that would be spent trying on dresses alone … no way.”
When asked if there was even a "one in a million" chance of her taking an Oscars hosting gig, Fey says, "I wish I could tell you there was."
Fey isn't the only one swearing off hosting. When a fan asked 2013 host Seth MacFarlane on Twitter if he would be interested in returning to the Oscars, the Family Guy creator said, "No way. Lotta fun to have done it, though."
While we were relatively pleased with MacFarlane's performance as host, there were many out there who were disgruntled by some of his jokes -- and that "We Saw Your Boobs" song. Fey empathizes with MacFarlane, telling Anne Thompson, "[Hosting the Oscars is] the hardest job there is. It's a tough room. Seth did great."
So what makes hosting so hard? "Everyone's nervous, and as the night goes on, more people in the room have lost. You have to play to the world and the room," she says.
Wait. Since when is Tina Fey intimidated by a global stage -- or anything? This is the woman who perfectly nailed a Sarah Palin impression during a U.S. presidential election. But we get it. 30 Rock just ended, and after seven seasons of bringing some of the funniest comedy to television every week, she deserves a break. If she turns down a gig as Oscars emcee, fine. But that means she at least owes us a night of hosting SNL.
