You know how nervous you get when your kid is at the preschool story share, and you sit there biting your nails and praying she won't cry or wet her pants? Now imagine you're up there with her, sitting alongside Natalie Morales while the TODAY show cameras roll and all of America watches.
That was the setup when little Emmelyn Roettger made her TV debut. The 3-year-old genius is currently the youngest member of Mensa, the "high IQ" society, an honor that landed her on the TODAY show couch. From the moment the interview kicked off, it was clear that Roettger isn't all that different from most toddlers: After finding her own image on the monitors, she mugged and waved and squirmed all over the place. (Watch it below.)
It was average, adorable toddler stuff -- until nature struck.
"My belly hurts," the tot announced about two and a half minutes in, while mom, dad and Morales tried to distract her. "I have to go poop, I have to go poop," Roettger announced about thirteen times, tugging at her mic and adding "take this off me so I can poop!" Of course Twitter was on it, spreading news of the interview with the apropos hash tag #smartbutstill3.
I think there are two key lessons to be learned here: 1) No matter how smart your kid is, when she's gotta go, she's gotta go; and 2) If you ever get on the TODAY show, feign a bathroom emergency to ensure your airtime immediately goes viral.
