A New York judge signed off on the final divorce judgment on Monday, Aug. 20, a source close to the newly divorced couple confirms to People. Unlike the prolonged and contentious divorces so prevalent in Hollywood, Cruise, 50, and Holmes, 33, have wrapped up their divorce quite quickly.
According to a source, the couple is on speaking terms for the sake of their daughter, 6-year-old Suri. Although Cruise has generous visitation rights with Suri, she resides in the custody of her mother, who recently enrolled her in a prestigious Manhattan Catholic school.
"They are both going to do what's best for Suri," the source told People.
Since filing for divorce in June, Holmes has kept an extraordinarily high profile in New York, taking Suri out for daily treks around the city to everything from museums to the zoo to neighborhood eateries.
Both Cruise and Holmes have plenty to do post-divorce. Holmes is set to star in the the new Broadway play Dead Accounts this fall, and Cruise starts shooting the sci-fi thriller All You Need Is Kill in London this October.
