Tom Cruise and Paramount Pictures have managed to put their differences aside and are reuniting to bring Mission: Impossible back to the big screen for a fourth installment.
Cruise's rep has confirmed that the actor will be returning to his role as secret agent Ethan Hunt when filming begins on Mission: Impossible IV this summer. The movie is scheduled for a May 2011 release. Cruise, 47, will be co-producing with Star Trek director J.J. Abrams.
"Tom and J.J. are great talents and we are excited to be working with them to relaunch this legendary franchise," Paramount chairman and CEO Brad Grey said in a statement Tuesday.
In 2006, after Mission: Impossible III didn't do quite as well as the studio had hoped -- and Cruise had been acting kind of wacky -- Paramount terminated their production deal with the actor. Now that Cruise has seemed to calm down, the studio seems to have decided to give the partnership another try.
