Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have always seemed unfazed by bizarre rumors: Cruise "auditioned" wives before choosing Holmes, Holmes was "brainwashed" by Cruise and his Scientologist buddies, Holmes faked a pregnancy, and so on. But maybe they actually do care what we think: a British magazine is reporting that the Cruises want to film a reality show, in order to "portray themselves as a normal family who do normal things."
What is it with all these celebrities who want to prove they're "normal" through reality TV? Tom Cruise left normal behind long ago, when he started jumping on Oprah's couch (and it's hard to forget those Scientology videos). Even adorable Suri is the furthest thing from a normal 4-year-old, with the jet-setting and the designer handbags. The Cruise family is glamorous and mysterious. But "just like us?" Please.
Let's say this reality show does happen. Would we ever glimpse the reality of this family's day-to-day life? No family is perfect. But Cruise, long saddled with a reputation for being a control freak, reportedly won't agree to a TV show unless he's "100 percent sure" that " it will reflect him and Katie in the best possible light." And then there are the reports that Cruise "got the idea for a show after filming some viral videos with Cameron Diaz....for his film Knight and Day." Have you seen those videos? They're cute, but look totally staged. We prefer our reality shows with just a little more reality!
Still, if the show happens, Suri Cruise will instantly become the classiest (not to mention best-dressed) lady on TV. And here's the reality: legit or staged, cute or crazy, we would totally watch every episode.
